English Week 2022

Another brilliant week has flown by at the end of October to mark our annual English Week.  Our theme was ‘Growth Mindset’; to ignite students’ awareness on how to become better learners through the education of their minds along with our “Think! Trust! Try!” slogan; ‘Think that you can do it; Trust that you can do it; Try to do it’.

Recess Activities

A series of games and activities relating to the theme were introduced to students throughout the week.  Students are invited to participate in games tailored for their grade during recesses led by our NETs, such as spider-web for P.1-2; Bingo for P.3-4, and Treasure Map Quest for P.5-6.  Questions and vocabulary used in the games are all related to our theme, so students can learn while having fun with their classmates and teachers.  We have also planned for games along the corridor for during their free recesses.  For KS1, riddles are placed along the walls outside the classrooms and students to tackle.  As for KS2, letters were stuck along the corridors and students had challenge themselves in a Boggles game.

Special Assembly for the English Week

A special assembly was also held by three of our English Ambassadors, Stelice Chan (6D), Jasper Chan (6A) and Anson Lau (4A) on situational predicaments our students face in school.  The assembly provided insights for how we may deal with problems using ‘Think! Trust! Try!’ and how students can improve a dire situation through never giving up.

Special Activitiesà Live Drama and Dealing with Emotions

As for our Day 2 special activity, KS1 students are invited to the school hall to watch a drama show presented by the Dove Theatre Company on the story of The Tortoise and The Hare.  With its interactive component, the students showed great interests and gave high reviews of the event.  KS2 students partook in a specially designed lesson on how to deal with their emotions by adapting a growth mindset, in particular with daily situations between friends and family.  They also wrote down problems they’ve had and learnt about ways in dealing with them on our paper lightbulbs, which are presently being displayed in our English Room.

Think! Trust! Try! Keychains as Souvenirs

For students who have participated in both their class recess activity and their corridor activity, they were able to exchange a souvenir with their English Week Passports. P.1-3 students received a colourful lightbulb and P.4-6 students received a keychain with the slogan ‘Think! Trust! Try!’
